Not a script, not a checklist, more a set of thoughts to keep in mind during child-led play
A-TUNE is about TUNING in to the child you’re engaged with. This download is primarily for early childhood educators however, if you work with children and support children who have a disability, this download is also for you.
NOTICING their play offering or communication, musical or spoken is key. Then deciding how you’ll respond to it. We recommend being UNHURRIED, and taking a ‘slow-look’ at everything you do so you can do less to do more. Talk less, play more if you like. This can help you preserve your energy too!
From there, make a TINY MOVE, something that will allow you to share in the musical communication, or to engage in the child’s play. Nothing huge, just a small moment of matching and mirroring what the child offers in the play interaction.
Then, if all goes well, circle back to the elements of the framework that will keep the play and/or musical communication going.
Or know when ENOUGH is ENOUGH and step out. Remember, you can always step back in and move through A-TUNE again.
If you have any questions, just let me know. I’m always happy to talk more about how you can find the music in all that you do and use A-TUNE to develop connection, belonging and inclusion in your space.
